our history

 in 1878 sulzer bros. in winterthur started with the

 construction of refrigeration plants as a logic

 expansion of the companies activities in the

 business fields "steam engines" and "compressors".

 refrigeration machines were huge and heavy  at

 that time. nevertheless, in 1879 export of refrige-

 ration plants commenced. friotherm retains and

 expands this  heritage by developing industrial

 chillers and heat  pumps that serve the varying

 and ever changing needs of the industries.

 milestones

   our initial development of centrifugal chillers for refrige-

     ration started in the first quarter of the 19th century with

     a multi stage compressor for nh3.

   in 1958, we installed the first centrifugal chiller for air

     conditioning

   in 1967 two compressors were connected in series for an

     application at -55°c.

   the worlds biggest sea water heat pump was installed

     by us in stockholm, sweden in 1984/85 with a heating

      capacity of 180mw.
